Project: Zero-downtime migration from on-prem to AWS - case study

Timeline: 5 months
Team: 8 engineers
Budget: $463k

Challenge:
We needed to modernize our platform while maintaining zero downtime.

Solution:
We implemented a blue-green deployment strategy using:
- Terraform for IaC
- Feature flags
- SRE practices

Results:
✓ MTTR: 4hrs → 15min
✓ Zero production incidents during migration
✓ Platform now supports 10x growth

Happy to discuss our approach and share learnings!

The learning curve is steep. Any good resources to recommend? Our team is particularly concerned about production stability.

We implemented this using the following approach:
1. First step...
2. Then we...
3. Finally...
Results: significant improvement in deployment speed. Team: 11 engineers, 2 DevOps.

Pro tip: if you're implementing this, make sure to configure timeout settings correctly. We spent 2 weeks debugging random failures only to discover the default timeout was too low. Changed from 30s to 2min and all issues disappeared.

In our production environment with 200+ microservices, we found that Ansible significantly outperformed Kubernetes. The key was proper configuration of retry policy. Deployment time dropped from 45min to 8min. Highly recommended for teams running Kubernetes at scale.

Here's our production setup:
- Tool A for X
- Tool B for Y
- Custom scripts for Z
Happy to share more details if interested.
